I CONTEMPORARY
ART INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF AVEIRO
THE FULFILMENT OF A DREAM
The dream became real at
last. Just as old as the thriving life of AVEIROARTE, this dream, which
has always been cherished by those who founded our Association as well
as by everyone who joined in throughout almost four decades of
existence, is finally present in every exhibition spread out through the
city of Aveiro, in the Galleries of Morgado da Pedricosa, of the
Captaincy Building, of the City Museum, and of the City Hall. They are
the exhibit of 77 works of 48 artists that the demanding Jury of the I
CONTEMPORARY ART INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF AVEIRO chose among 516 works
presented by the 258 contestant artists. These figures by themselves
would be more than enough to assert that this initiative of AVEIROARTE
became a huge mobilization success. In fact, beyond the presence of
national artists from almost every corner of the country, there were
candidates from
Germany, Brazil, Spain,
United States of America, The Netherlands, Italy and England. The
selection of the work pieces was carried
out by a Jury consisting
of experts of recognizable merit: Bernardo Pinto de Almeida, António
Quadros Ferreira, José Maçãs de Carvalho, Ana Luísa Barão and Joana
Neves, who highlighted the great quality of the presented works and
congratulated themselves on the initiative that has reached a quite
prestigious dimension in its first edition.
As Founding Member and
President of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY, I ought to congratulate the MANAGING
BOARD of
AVEIROARTE on such a
courageous initiative. I
also wish to thank to the CITY HALL OF AVEIRO
for gladly having accepted to become our partner, by establishing the significative acquisition prize of 10,OOO€ (Euros) for the winning
artist, which must not be
seen as an expense but
rather as a cultural investment for our municipality Moreover, we should
express our gratitude to the diligent municipal team that constituted
the Secretariat of the Biennial.
Recognizing the merit of
the initiative and since the very first moment guaranteeing a precious
sponsorship, the President of
the Tourism Region of Rota
da Luz must be presented with our gratitude too.
As a local
inhabitant, I feel quite happy for the success achieved bythis I
CONTEMPORARY ART INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL.
After all, it's Aveiro
that through art affirms itself and makes way
to keep on growing!
